Most software is free the way the first hour of a car park is free. A meter is running somewhere behind it, the price of the thing is what it costs to serve it to you, and sooner or later somebody has to put a coin in. Invoice Koi is free for a duller reason. Making an invoice on your own phone costs us nothing, so the free plan is a real plan: a hundred invoices a year, no card, and no fortnight at the end of it.
The document is written on the phone. The figures are worked out on the phone. The PDF is drawn on the phone, by the same renderer that draws the preview, which is why the file your customer opens is the file you approved rather than a second rendering of it made somewhere else and sent on.
Nothing waits on a server either. No screen in the app needs a signal to open, so the whole invoice can be built in a basement, in a loft, or somewhere between two towns with one bar of reception, and it is finished and waiting when you get back to the road.
An invoice costs us nothing to make. What costs money is the second person: the server holding the photographs, the model doing the reading, and the paperwork a client signs.
Put those two facts together and the pricing writes itself. What free covers is one person and their own books, and the count on it is a year of invoices rather than thirty days of them, which is a number a one-van trade can look at and know the answer to. What Pro covers is everything that leaves the phone and reaches somebody else.
The number is on this page rather than at the point of sale, there is nothing on the free document with our name on it, and no clock starts when you install it. The free plan is where you stay until sending the paperwork is worth more to you than the price of it.
The list below is not a summary of the free plan written by somebody in marketing. It is the free plan: these lines are read out of the app's own paywall when this page is built, so the page and the screen that asks for money cannot describe two different products.
100 invoices a year is the only count on it. Estimates, clients, the price book, time and every report are not counted at all, and none of it needs a signal or an account.
The line falls where the second person does. Everything above happens between you and your own books, and costs nothing to give away. What Pro adds either costs real money every time it happens (a gigabyte of receipt photographs held on a server, a model reading one of them) or is the paperwork that goes out to a client and comes back signed, opened or paid.
One plan, billed by the week or by the year. There is no tier above it and no seat maths in it.
Free software is mostly paid for in lock-in. Your work goes in easily and comes out badly, and by the time you want to go, going is the expensive part. That is the bill this one does not send you, and it is the thing worth checking before you trust anything at all with a year of your invoices.
Koi writes one file and puts everything in it. Not a report of your data, not a summary of it, and not the half of it that happens to fit a spreadsheet.
Put it where you like, email it to yourself, keep it on a drive. It reads back into a fresh install on another phone, it is free, and it is not behind an account.
Reading it back is the half that usually goes missing. An export nothing can import is a keepsake rather than a copy of your business, so the file goes back into a fresh install and the books are there: the same documents, the same clients, the same photographs attached to the same receipts.

Pro lifts the count, and that is the whole of it. Nothing you have already made is taken away or locked: the invoices are on the phone, they are in the backup file, and opening, printing or resending one asks for nothing.

Carrying your receipt photographs to a server costs money by the gigabyte, reading something with a model costs money by the call, and the paperwork that goes out to a client (a signature, a deposit, a statement) is the part of the app that is worth paying for once you are billing every week. Those are Pro, along with a place at the front of the support queue. The app carries no advertising, no analytics and no third party measuring what you do with it.

Estimates, clients, the price book, time, expenses and every report are not counted at all, on either plan.
No. Everything works before you make one: an account exists so a lost phone does not lose the books, and so a second device can pick them up. Nothing else is behind it.
